Emma Roberts’ Famous Family:
Emma Roberts comes from a family of actors. Her dad is Eric Roberts, her step-mother is Eliza Roberts, and her aunt is Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts.
Emma looks up to Julia but wants to forge her own path. “I kind of want to do my own thing. I want to create my own path. She’s done amazing movies and she’s a great actress so I’d love to do stuff like her, but I don’t want to be just like her.”
Her Big Break:
Emma Roberts’ first screen role was opposite Johnny Depp in 2001’s Blow. But the biggest break of her career came when she landed the lead in the Nickelodeon TV series Unfabulous.
Not Just an Actress:
Roberts released an album, Unfabulous and More, in 2005.
Notable Movie Credits:
Blow, Grand Champion, Spymate, Aquamarine, Nancy Drew, Hotel for Dogs, Wild Child, Lymelife, The Flight Before Christmas, The Winning Season, Rodeo Girl, Valentine’s Day and It’s Kind of a Funny Story.
Roberts was never into basketball and had to learn how to play for her role in Winning Season. “It’s really difficult,” said Roberts during a press day for Hotel for Dogs. “I was a volleyball and tennis girl. I stayed away from basketball. I never liked it. And then I started for the movie and I really enjoy it now. But it’s really hard. I’m actually really good at shooting.”
Asked if athletics run in her family, Roberts replied, “My mom is very athletic. She used to ski and play tennis really well. She tried to teach me how to ski when I was younger and I had to have a clip on my skis till I was like 13 and then she said she wouldn’t ski with me if I didn’t get rid of the clip, so I decided to snowboard. I’ve never gotten back on skis again.”
